£3 m rPET investment by LinPac

LinPac Packaging has invested £3 million in thermoforming and extrusion equipment for recycled PET at its Featherstone plant in a move which it says makes it one of the largest producers of rPET packaging in the UK.

The investment is for its new range of recycled PET packaging, Rfresh, which will use a minimum of 50 per cent post-consumer recyclate.

Rfresh is capable of preserving fresh meat, fish and poultry for up to 10 days in a conventional chilled distribution system, and meets all EU legislative requirements for food contact use. The range is compatible with automatic tray denester machinery and can be used for both manual and automatic lid sealing.

LinPac says that by both extruding and thermoforming on site it will have more control over the quality of the rPET it produces, and will be able to combine bought-in reclaimed post-consumer waste with its own post-industrial waste.

LinPac has also been investing in Europe, with the purchase of Portuguese packaging distributor, Ovarpack Embalagens.
