Alternative Waste Solutions, based in Newcastle and with a plant in Hong Kong, has attracted £6,1 million which will be spent at its Hemswell plant in Lincolnshire. The plant currently has a capacity of 26,000 tonnes of PET and HDPE bottles, but has been designed to handle 100,000 tonnes. The new money will be used to construct a separate building for its food grade line. In the USA MBA Polymers, which has operations in the US, China, Britain and Austria, has received a $40 million injection which will be used to open further sites. MBA works in the WEEE and automotive waste field, extracting plastics from items such as household appliances, computer and business equipment and vehicles, and its joint venture operations are with companies skilled in reclamation of metals.
