Investment boost for plastics recycling

The PETrecycling.cz assessment based on R&D up-to-day results is, that it should be made clear, that all beverage containers, e.g. PET bottles, ALU cans and glass bottles, that are commercially imported into Czech Republic or sold here should be included in return systems with deposits - to encourage the consumers to take the bottles back

More investment capital is being put into two major recycling companies to fund growth.

Alternative Waste Solutions, based in Newcastle and with a plant in Hong Kong, has attracted £6,1 million which will be spent at its Hemswell plant in Lincolnshire.

The plant currently has a capacity of 26,000 tonnes of PET and HDPE bottles, but has been designed to handle 100,000 tonnes. The new money will be used to construct a separate building for its food grade line.

In the USA MBA Polymers, which has operations in the US, China, Britain and Austria, has received a $40 million injection which will be used to open further sites.

MBA works in the WEEE and automotive waste field, extracting plastics from items such as household appliances, computer and business equipment and vehicles, and its joint venture operations are with companies skilled in reclamation of metals.

European Metal Recycling Limited (EMR) of Warrington, England and MBA Polymers, Inc. (MBA) of Richmond, California, USA announced the formation of a joint venture company (JV) to build and operate a state-ofthe-art plastics recycling facility that will focus on recovering plastics from shredder residue.

The joint venture plans to begin operation of a 60,000 ton per year processing plant by early 2009. The location of the plant has yet to be decided.
