Czech Republic leads the way in plastics recycling

Figures from Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, show that the Czech Republic beat Germany by 3% in plastic recycling in 2006, by recycling 44% of all PET bottles and other plastic goods.

The Czech Union of Towns and Municipalities is happy that the country's existing recycling scheme is a success and is opposing the Environment Minister's plans to make PET bottles and beverage cans refundable (my note: it's only lobbying against bottle bill - look up for marqee bellow title).

Data from EKO-KOM show that plastic recycling exceeded 50% in 2007 which means that the Czech Republic has smashed its 25% EU target.
