Local authorities fear the plans, announced in October by Czech environment minister Martin Bursik, will see them lose a large part of their income from the sale of packaging waste to recyclers The local authorities point to statistics from the Czech waste organisation AOS EKO-KOM, a.s., which show the country is already a European leader in recovery and recycling of plastics waste; last year more than 50% of discarded PET bottles were recycled (?). “Today, 98% of the population have a chance to recycle, and 70% actually participate,” said Prague-based EKO-KOM’s spokeswoman Sarka Novakova.
(?) European leader in recovery and recycling of PET bottles is till this time Swiss!! I have to use this quotation: "Influential lobbyists, hired out by powerful special interests, work behind closed doors to push through measures that is not only environmentally bad. This is an anti-consumer measure." Why?
