New guidance document recommends food producers, processors, transporters consider role of packaging on food security.

Guidance advises careful control of packaging materials; oversight of suppliers, contract packagers; secure storage of labels; destruction of outdated or discarded labels. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, College Park, MD, issues Food Producers, Processors, and Transporters: Food Security Preventive Measures Guidance document to help minimize risk of tampering or other malicious, criminal or terrorist actions.

Guidance applies to all members of food supply chain except retail stores, foodservice outlets.
