The Australian soft drinks group CCA reported a 22% rise in first-half profit on Wednesday (20/08), spurred by higher prices for its drinks. The article states that CCA has held talks with French food company Danone in regards to the acquisition of its New Zealand unit, Frucor. Managing Director Coca-Cola Amatil Terry Davis has also confirmed interest in Cadbury's local Schweppes unit. This unit has been valued between $650m and $800m. Mr Davis said: "Our position has been that we (the Coca-Cola group) own Schweppes in all other markets of the world including New Zealand. We're hoping that's how we can position it with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)." Cadbury has been reviewing its last beverage business in Australia since May, following the demerger of Cadbury and Dr Pepper Snapple in North America. Cadbury's share of the Australian soft drinks market is around 25%, compared to The Coca-Cola Co brands in the mid-60s. Coca-Cola owns 30% of CCA. However, Mr Davis also said that negotiations were not at the stage where anything concrete had been agreed.
