"We all are extremely proud to live in a city that has embraced this recycling program in such a relatively short period of time," said Phill Francis, director of Central Services for the city of Griffin. "We certainly have more room to grow our program, but at least we know now that Griffin residents are ready and willing to participate. We look forward to challenging our residents to recycle even more in 2009." The campaign began in October 2008 when officials launched a grassroots education campaign with the help of the Curbside Value Partnership. The campaign’s focus was to educate residents about Griffin’s curbside recycling program in an attempt to break down knowledge barriers keeping residents from filling their carts weekly. The city of Griffin was selected by CVP, a national invitation-only program of Keep America Beautiful, designed to help communities grow their curbside programs through education, due to its positive reputation in the state. Griffin’s program is seen as a best practice and a successful effort that could be made even more impactful with enhanced education. Griffin and CVP teamed up to implement and measure a grassroots communication campaign designed to reach city residents through strategic advertising, participation in local events, a partnership with Keep Spalding-Griffin Beautiful and media relations. About Curbside Value Partnership: Officially unveiled in October 2005 at the National Recycling Congress, the national CVP program is currently funded by members of the Aluminum Association and Can Manufacturers Institute. CVP is the only current, national program that engages communities, haulers, material recovery facilities (MRFs) and other stakeholders to identify solutions to improving curbside recycling programs through education. CVP activities benefit communities and industry, driving more recycled materials into mills across the country benefiting the fiber, glass, steel, plastic and aluminum industries. CVP’s goal is to launch and study education programs to increase participation in local curbside recycling programs and make programs more profitable and sustainable. Current CVP partner communities include the state of Georgia as well as Arlington County, Va.; Brevard County, Fla.; Burlington County, N.J.; Denver, Colo.; Kansas City, Mo.; Indian River, Fla.; Lancaster and York Counties in Penn., Mecklenburg County, N.C. Omaha, Neb.; Baton Rouge, L.A., and Orlando, Fla..
