Israel's Climate Change Side Event at Poznan Draws Major Interest

The PETrecycling.cz assessment based on R&D up-to-day results is, that it should be made clear, that all beverage containers, e.g. PET bottles, ALU cans and glass bottles, that are commercially imported into Czech Republic or sold here should be included in return systems with deposits - to encourage the consumers to take the bottles back

Israel has wide experience with innovative approaches and technologies for adaptation to harsh climate conditions including hot and dry summers and meager rainfall in winter. In fact, these very constraints led Israel to develop cutting-edge technologies in such fields as water treatment, recycling and reuse of treated sewage water and desert agriculture and afforestation, making it a world leader in efficient water management and combating desertification.

Similarly, Israel's lack of local energy resources and its dependence on imported fossil fuels for local consumption have led it to develop innovative energy technologies, especially in the area of solar energy.

The side event organized by Israel included presentations by prominent Israeli experts in the areas of solar energy, water management and management of soils and agriculture under arid conditions.

Presentations were made by the following experts:

  1. Professor David Faiman, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel: Recent Solar Technologies in Israel
  2. Mr. Shimon Tal, former Israeli Water Commissioner: Efficient Water Management
  3. Mr. Naty Barak, Vice President, Netafim Co., Israel Technologies for Sustainable Irrigation

Although a non-Annex I country under the Climate Change Convention, Israel remains ready to assist developing countries to adapt to the threats of climate change based on its own accumulated experience in the development of innovative technologies in such areas as combating desertification, water management and solar energy.
