Israel has wide experience with innovative approaches and technologies for adaptation to harsh climate conditions including hot and dry summers and meager rainfall in winter. In fact, these very constraints led Israel to develop cutting-edge technologies in such fields as water treatment, recycling and reuse of treated sewage water and desert agriculture and afforestation, making it a world leader in efficient water management and combating desertification. Similarly, Israel's lack of local energy resources and its dependence on imported fossil fuels for local consumption have led it to develop innovative energy technologies, especially in the area of solar energy. The side event organized by Israel included presentations by prominent Israeli experts in the areas of solar energy, water management and management of soils and agriculture under arid conditions.
