Evian Volvic Sources and France Plastiques Recyclage signed a major agreement for the production of high quality bottle-to-bottle recycled PET. With this agreement, for production equivalent to roughly 35 percent of the capacity of the Limay plant, which held its official opening late last month, Evian Volvic Sources has become the first client of the new FPR production unit. Evian´s goal is to gradually incorporate up to 50 percent of recycled PET into its bottles, beginning next year. The creation of FPR was facilitated by an investment of $56.5 million by its investors and will eventually create 75 to 80 jobs. The recycled PET manufactured at Limay will be used to produce Evian and Volvic bottles and meets the specifications needed to preserve the specific qualities of spring water and to commit to food safety standards higher than those set by AFSSA (FPR obtained a positive rating from AFSSA on April 23, 2009). "In collaboration with Evian Volvic Sources, we have developed a high-performance facility that can meet the strictest requirements related to food safety," said Philippe Bourdeix, chairman of France Plastiques Recyclage. "This new plant can produce very high quality Bottle-to-Bottle r-PET which perfectly fulfills our expectations at EVS", explained Jean-Pierre Deffis, chairman of Evian-Volvic Sources. "Our requirements today exceed market standards." The facility will recycle 40,000 tons of bottles a year starting in 2010 and will produce 30,000 tons of r-PET. Evian-Volvic-Source has been working with FPR for two years to develop a high-performance r-PET facility to design improved packaging as part of its commitment towards actively reducing its environmental impact. Recycled PET has been incorporated into Evian and Volvic bottles since March 2008 and now makes up 25 percent of the content in the main formats of Evian and Volvic bottles. Through this contract, EVS will increase the longevity of the stock of recycled PET and guarantee sufficient supply to gradually increase the amount of r-PET in its bottles to 50 percent starting in 2010. The agreement with France Plastiques Recyclage calls for production of between 10-15,000 tons of recycled PET, half of the amount used by EVS, roughly 35 percent of the new plant´s capacity.
