The Houston-based solid waste management company has struck a deal with BigBelly Solar to become the exclusive "waste and environmental services company distributor" of its solar-powered compactor technology in North America. The compactors enable collection of about five times as much waste as a traditional container and reduce the need for frequent collection. Waste Management said the compacting unit is about the same size as a 35-gallon container, but will hold about 180 gallons of waste. "We know busy intersections, public parks, city streets, sporting events and other public spaces can be magnets for trash," said Dave Aardsma, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Waste Management. "Ordinary trash barrels can easily overflow and become eyesores." Contact Waste & Recycling News senior
