Tesco is taking in-store recycling to a new level

The PETrecycling.cz assessment based on R&D up-to-day results is, that it should be made clear, that all beverage containers, e.g. PET bottles, ALU cans and glass bottles, that are commercially imported into Czech Republic or sold here should be included in return systems with deposits - to encourage the consumers to take the bottles back

Tesco is taking in-store recycling to a new level by running trials in selected stores that allow customers to leave packaging behind in store for recycling.

Tesco customers will be able to leave packaging in store

The retailer is using the trials, which will run in Tesco stores in Guildford, Surrey and Illminster, Somerset from for 6 weeks from 1 April, to gauge public opinion on packaging.

Tesco category director for energy, petrol, waste, recycling and packaging Alasdair James said he believed the retailer was "taking the correct steps" to help customers reduce and recycle.

"However, at Tesco we're always keen to challenge ourselves as to whether we should be doing more and so this trial is an opportunity for customers to show us whether they still feel we have packaging which they consider excessive," said James.

Tesco customers will be able to leave packaging in store

The recent Local Government Association survey showed Tesco had the lowest amount of packaging on its products relative to other retailers and this has reduced year-on-year.

Tesco has increased the amount of recycled content in its packaging and moved to materials that are more easily recyclable for consumers.

James said: "I am looking forward to the results as they will help to inform our plan for the future."
