Shelton, CT – June 15, 2009 – Tomra of North America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tomra Systems ASA (TOMRA) and leading global provider of advanced recycling solutions, today announced it is partnering with Vending Innovations LLC, a vending channel consultancy, to expand TOMRA’s penetration of reverse vending machines (RVM) into non-traditional channels such as colleges, hospitals, transportation venues, entertainment facilities, sports arenas and business & industry. The partnership will increase recycling of plastic, aluminum and glass beverage containers in locations with high customer traffic. "Vending locations have changed very little in recent decades. Providing consumers with a convenient, clean, simple, and environmentally friendly way to recycle their beverage containers will attract customers to the vending area, thus providing an appealing draw that encourages them to linger and purchase more goods," said Warren Stoll, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Tomra of North America. "By promoting recycling, vending operators will increase their competitiveness at a time when more and more consumers are concerned about environmental sustainability." Consumers can insert their empty bottles into a TOMRA RVM, which looks similar to a traditional vending machine. Vending operators can also partner with consumer product and/or beverage manufacturers to sell four-color, billboard-quality ad space on the machines. Operators can also work with their venues to provide coupons or prize tickets in exchange for bottles. The RVMs come equipped with technology to allow TOMRA to access them remotely for repairs and preventative maintenance. In the event of a machine service issue, the machines automatically send e-mail notifications for service. "Environmental sustainability and recycling are important, even more so to young people today. The ability to bring an advanced solution like RVMs to these environments is a real positive step in helping vending and foodservice operators become even more valued to the locations and clients they serve," said Paul Schlossberg, Vice President of Vending Innovations LLC. TOMRA created the world’s first automated bottle return machine in 1972. Since then, the company has installed nearly 65,000 recycling systems worldwide. Today, TOMRA collects more than 30 billion used beverage containers through its sophisticated recycling machines, which is equivalent to approximately three percent of the world’s consumption.
