The Vacurema systems now have approval of category J from the US-based FDA. The Vacurema technology converts post consumer PET bottle flake, or other forms of industrial or post consumer waste, into rPET sheet. It uses a vacuum reactor and requires no separate dryer or crystalliser. And it is an integrated production process, with melt going through an Erema RTF automatic 32mm self-cleaning backflush screen changer directly into a downline cast sheet line. Erema says that worldwide installed production capacity of its Vacurema system inline PET sheet lines, whether offered as turnkey systems or using downline sheet equipment from partner SML, has more than doubled in the past three years. Installed production capacity increased to 180,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2009 from 65,000 tonnes at the end of 2005. Growth has been strongest in Europe, where installed capacity has trebled over the period from 20,000 tonnes to 60,000 tonnes. Related external links:
