Suntory Beverage & Food has
announced it has developed a two-liter plastic bottle weighing just
36.2
grams, making it the lightest Japanese bottle of its kind on the market.
| The new design manages
to cut the amount of resin needed to manufacture the PET bottle
without sacrificing its strength, while keeping it easy to hold and
crush. The bottle weighs a total of 39.3 grams, including a redesigned
cap and label. Suntory
initially plans to use it for its "Tennensui" (natural mineral water)
range, which currently weighs in at 47 grams. It is predicted to
reduce carbon dioxide emissions during manufacturing and
transportation by about 7,000 tons a year.
The current lightest Japanese
two-liter PET bottle is the 38-gram one used for Coca-Cola (Japan)
Co.'s "Mori-no-mizu Dayori" mineral water, according to Suntory. |
