Why PET bottle is not reused in Japan?

BACK

HOME ARCHIV 2004 20.02.2004 Why PET bottle is not reused in Japan?

Eight million metric tons of PET pellets are manufactured each year worldwide for making bottles. One and a half million tons of PET bottles (e.g. only 18,75 percent) are "recycled" (acc. EU including energy recovery by incineration!), but only round 400 thousands tons (five percent) are transformed back into bottles!

To Mr. Jiri Nezval
PETrecycling CZ - web portal

From AIES Co., Ltd.

Dear Mr. Nezval,

We are impressed by your serious opinion.

In Japan due to following reason PET bottle is not reused.

  1. safety:  PET is easy to adsorb stain. And it is difficult to clean the surface completely.
  2. appearance:  PET is easy to be scratched. Japanese can not tolerate even fine scratch.
  3. weight:  The refillable bottle is much heavier than the non-refillable bottle, as you say.
  4. furthermore we think the refillable bottle at last become garbage.

So it will not be a real solution.

We believe PET depolymerization method is just resolution of the garbage problem.

Best regards,

AIES Co., Ltd.
