HOME ARCHIV 2003 28.05.2003 New PET plant for Thailand in 2004

********************************* Dir.Gen. PETCORE Frank Koelewijn: "I am concerned with the haste with which legislators in candidate countries scramble to impose laws just to meet EU requirements. They risk making costly mistakes. Instead, they should request fast moving consumer goods manufacturers to come up with a sound business plan for the collection of recyclable household waste such, that it meets local economic, social and cultural needs. It is so much easier to do things right in the first place, instead of having to repair a dysfunctional collection system."" *********************************

Zimmer AG, a member of the mg technologies ag group ((now as GEA Group AG), has been awarded a contract for the construction of a polycondensation plant in Map Ta Phut, Thailand.

The plant, being constructed for Thai PET Resin Co. Ltd., will produce granulate for PET bottles.

Thai PET Resin Co. is a joint venture between Mitsui Chemicals of Japan (70%) and Siam Mitsui PTA (30%).

Siam Mitsui PTA already operates locally two plants producing pure terephthalic acid, a feedstock for PET production.

Start-up of the new plant is scheduled for January 2004.
