The firm, which is rebuilding the facility in Lincolnshire following a fire in August 2009, intends to install 17 TiTech Autosort systems at the plant, mainly focused on the front end of the plastic bottle recycling process. Three TiTech sorting machines have been in operation at AWS's temporary facility, which it has been using while work on rebuilding the Hemswell plant is undertaken by German firm Stadler. The first phase of the rebuild, bringing the site up to 100,000 tonnes/year capacity, is expected to be completed in the Summer 2010, with a second phase planned to further increase the capacity to 140,000 tonnes-a-year. Jonathan Short, AWS managing director, said: "We received a number of very good proposals regarding automated sorting solutions, but ultimately TiTech's proven track record won us over. We had used their sorting systems before and we knew that they were capable of delivering; this certainty was a crucial factor for us." Related external story:
