Production of rPET at AWS increased to meet rising demand

Production of recycled PET pellets at the AWS Eco Plastics plant in Hemswell is being increased to meet demand from Artenius PET Packaging Europe's Gresford plant for PET bottle preforms.

The purePET 78 material is supplied to Artenius under a contract won in 2008 for an annual 13,000 tonnes. While the contract between AWS and APPE is described as "exclusive", AWS says its undisclosed capacity increase is intended to meet demand from additional customers, as well as APPE.

AWS maintained supply to Artenius – formed out of part of Amcor's European PET business when it was bought by La Seda de Barcelona in 2007 – despite two major fires in August and September last year which caused major disruption to production.
