The new assessment, conducted by Franklin Associates Ltd., was sponsored by the National Association for PET Container Resources, the American Chemistry Council, the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers and the PET Resin Association. Using life cycle inventory methodology, the study quantifies the energy requirements, solid wastes, and atmospheric and waterborne emissions during the collection of postconsumer PET and HDPE packaging through reprocessing it into clean recycled resin. The study, "Final Report - Life Cycle Inventory of 100% Postconsumer HDPE and PET Recycled Resin from Postconsumer Containers and Packaging," is available on the sponsor organization websites, including at www.napcor.com/PET/sustainability.html.
