Recycled PET in packaging reduces footprint

The PETrecycling.cz assessment based on R&D up-to-day results is, that it should be made clear, that all beverage containers, e.g. PET bottles, ALU cans and glass bottles, that are commercially imported into Czech Republic or sold here should be included in return systems with deposits - to encourage the consumers to take the bottles back

A new study commissioned by plastic container trade groups reports including recycled PET resin in packaging reduces the environmental footprint of packaging, in terms of required production energy and greenhouse gas emissions.

The new assessment, conducted by Franklin Associates Ltd., was sponsored by the National Association for PET Container Resources, the American Chemistry Council, the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers and the PET Resin Association. Using life cycle inventory methodology, the study quantifies the energy requirements, solid wastes, and atmospheric and waterborne emissions during the collection of postconsumer PET and HDPE packaging through reprocessing it into clean recycled resin.
