Used PET bottles are often just thrown away in the streets and the garbage bins.  It's bad for the economy and a burden for the environment since the bottles do not decompose for more than 100 years. But this waste can be transformed into valuable materials - and it's good business!

A unique solution for recycling PET bottles has been developed by Retech Recycling Technology, Sweden, and is marketed under the registered trademark SYSTEM REDOMA.

The Swedish PET 500 recycling plant processes 500 kg/h of dirty bottles and transforms them into clean PET flakes. This is a valuable export commodity which can be used in a wide range of applications.

The PET 500 Plant - A Unique Process

The new REDOMA system is simpler and requires a much lower initial investment than the huge industrial systems set up in USA and Western Europe, and is therefore very attractive for the less wealthy countries. And the whole process is environment-friendly - no harmful substances are released into the atmosphere or the drainage system. Other attractive features of the REDOMA plant are:

  • low operating cost
  • user-friendly design
  • very simple to operate and service
  • high efficiency
  • very clean end product
  • little need of spare parts
  • suitable for low-wage countries

PET Flakes Used for Many New Products

The recycled PET material can be used for manufacturing a wide range of products, for example as fibre material in carpeting, for stuffing cushions, toys, etc, for insulation in sleeping bags and clothes. It is used for sheeting, for thermo-forming of insulation materials, car flooring and various types of containers, packaging materials, measuring cups, etc. Pelletized PET can be used for injection moulding to produce various parts for the automobile industry, etc.

The demand for PET bottles is growing. During the last decade, the consumption in Western Europe increased from 300,000 tonnes per year to 1.5 million tonnes. And in many countries, especially in the developing world, the bottles are still just thrown away, so recycling is a timely and profitable business opportunity.

Good for the environment, and good for the economy!
