New product innovations from TiTech

The PETrecycling.cz assessment based on R&D up-to-day results is, that it should be made clear, that all beverage containers, e.g. PET bottles, ALU cans and glass bottles, that are commercially imported into Czech Republic or sold here should be included in return systems with deposits - to encourage the consumers to take the bottles back

TiTech is now introducing innovative enhancements to two of the solutions in its product range, the TiTech Finder® and the TiTech PolySort®.

TiTech Finder® is used in recycling processes to ensure the recovery of valuable metals.  Typical material applications include for example automobile and electronic waste recycling. Now with the new Finder®, TiTech offers even greater performance capabilities with the development of a new digital electromagnetic sensor series, new control electronics and a new mechanical design.

According to TiTech Product Manager Hartmut Harbeck, “what we have achieved with the new Finder is the ability to be even more precise in localizing objects as small as 2 mm on the in-feed belt and sorting them according to the desired properties. The technology behind this is a system of intelligently interpreting the signals from each sensor, gauging their relative intensity, and using this data to more accurately control the pneumatic air jets used to separate the materials.

The effect of this is that by increasing the precision, our customers are able to get a higher throughput using the same equipment dimensions.” Continues Harbeck, “with PolySort® Duo, we have come up with a new scanning technique that does a dual scan in one process. The big advantage with this is that we are able to increase the distance between the scanner unit and the conveyor belt by up to 78 cm, yet at the same time maintain the same spatial resolution that we had previously. And this will allow larger objects to pass under the scanner, reducing potential damage and making it easier to maintain.“

TiTech PolySort® Duo is used principally to sort polymers or mixed plastics by their material properties.

IFAT 2008 Exhibition, Munich

TiTech presented two machines from their range of sorting solutions at the IFAT exhibition in Munich, 5-9 May 2008. The exhibition, the world’s largest trade fair for environmental technology and services, attracted over 120,000 visitors from 163 countries.

At IFAT TiTech presented the X-Tract®, an innovative dry-mechanic system for sorting materials through the use of high resolution x-ray transmission image processing technology. Also presented was the AutoSort® Duo, a highly flexible sorting system utilizing near infrared (NIR) and visual spectrometry sensor technology.

MATERIAL RECOGNITION & SORTING
Innovation in Global Recycling

TiTech was established in 1993 in Norway as a result of the need initially to recover plastic laminated beverage cartons from the waste stream. The success of the optical sorting technology created for this application led to the development of even more versatile systems for identifying and sorting a wide range of materials. Today the company is the world leader within the niche of waste sorting technology, and has been a part of TOM RA’s operations since 2004.

Typical application areas of TiTech sorting technology include:

  • Recycling plastic bottles (e.g. PET and PE) and beverage cartons

  • Paper recycling (e.g. sorting paper from mixed wastes and sorting out a deinking fraction)

  • Automotive recycling (e.g. recovery of nonferrous metals, stainless steel from mixed metals, recovering aluminum)

  • Electronic waste recycling (e.g. recovery of printed circuit boards, precious metal compounds and nonferrous metals)

  • CRT glass recycling (sorting panel glass containing barium and funnel glass containing lead oxide)

  • Waste to energy (e.g. sorting plastics and flame-retardant materials containing chlorine and bromine)

  • Processing waste solids (such as construction waste, slag, pellets)

  • Processing wood or timber (e.g. removal of metals)

  • Commercial and industrial waste (e.g. extracting valuable materials)

The TiTech Group also includes companies providing sensor-based sorting technology toward the mining industry (Commodas) and the food processing industry (QVision).
