The PETrecycling.cz assessment based on R&D up-to-day results is, that it should be made clear, that all beverage containers, e.g. PET bottles, ALU cans and glass bottles, that are commercially imported into Czech Republic or sold here should be included in return systems with deposits - to encourage the consumers to take the bottles back

Automatic reverse vending machines (RVMs) are becoming increasingly important in the market for many reasons. Savings of personnel and space costs, ease of handling, and customer loyalty and satisfaction are just some of the significant aspects of modern reverse vending machines.

RVM model RHEPRO

The RHEPRO, a reverse vending machine from Wincor Nixdorf, is a modular system that can easily be tailored to a store’s specific situation no matter whether it is going to handle classic refillable bottles and crates or non refillable containers.

Over 1700 bottles and cans and over 600 crates are stored in an extensive database which is continually updated by the online service centre. Recognition of the logo on crates ensures a more accurate return process. The store’s specific assortment is reflected in the reverse vending machine and can be adjusted at any time by the online service or by means of empties control software. The advanced multirecognition system simultaneously checks multiple characteristics of empty containers – color, shape and weight as well as, optionally, barcode or material – to ensure that returns are handled accurately and that containers not belonging to the assortment are rejected reliably. And all that is done fast.

The RMV takes less than a second to identify an empty container accurately. This speeds up the return process noticeably and increases customer satisfaction.

Online service: The reverse vending machine is connected to the online service centre via ISDN or, alternatively, via LAN or WLAN. This keeps the software and databases up to date. Changes to the assortment can be made in a very short time, for instance to authorize bottles or crates. Minor problems are identified on the spot  and eliminated.

The open operating system architecture

(Linux) makes it easy to integrate RVMs in merchandise management systems and POS systems, as has been done in an exemplary manner for Wincor Nixdorf’s Poition.

The advantages are that this provides effective protection against tampering with receipts and that there can be a transparent, end-to-end logistics system for returned containers. Changes to the assortment in the merchandise management system are reflected immediately in the reverse vending machine.

The RHEPRO’s modular design enables various kinds of background technology to be integrated. A custom
solution can be found for every store regardless of whether it involves classic roller conveyors and bottle
platforms, stacking elevators for crates and bottles, or crushers for cans and non-refillable PET bottles.
