The Voridian division of Eastman Chemical Company has recently launched a new PET resin that provides UV light protection for food, beverage, cosmetic, household, personal care and pharmaceutical products.

Vitiva PET PC715 contains an FDA approved UV absorber that protects delicate colours, flavours, vitamins and nutrients in custom packaging applications.

Containers made from Vitiva PET will block virtually all UV light from 320 to 370 nanometers, whereas standard PET with no additives will allow UV light to pass through the packaging.

The UV absorber in Vitiva PET is chemically bound to the polymer chain, which enables bottle manufacturers and brand owners to more easily obtain consistent UV performance. Vitiva PET is also said to offer significant processing advantages and is a “drop-in” replacement for standard PET.
